More Info

The Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP) is a biennial competition and exhibition of Canadian visual art. Offering $52,000 in awards, SSNAP is one of Canada’s largest celebrations of contemporary art. The prize is administered by the not-for-profit Salt Spring National Art Prize Society to recognize, showcase and advance the accomplishments of Canadian visual artists.

About the prize

I had the best experience at SSNAP at being part of the finalist. The team of SSNAP was super professional and helpful and I felt really good working with them. It was so memorable, I encourage artists in Canada to apply and be a part of this experience.

Katie Biele

Winner SSNAP People’s Choice Awards 3rd Prize 2023/24

I was one of the finalists at SSNAP this year. The team at SSNAP works really hard to make this experience smooth and memorable for all the artists and everyone involved. I really hope to come back sometime in the near future with a new work of art and I also encourage artists all over Canada to apply for this wonderful experience.

Guntaj Deep Singh

SSNAP Finalist 2023/24

Its been an amazing experience to see artists from sea to sea and be able to actually go to Salt Spring, see the dynamic community out there, the amount of commitment and passion for the prize within the community but also across the country.

Being apart of the Salt Spring National Art Prize was a beautiful experience. It was so special to receive a prize People Choice Award and be able to connect with the folks from Salt Spring Island.

Cheyenne Rain LeGrande

People's Choice Award - 2nd prize 2023/24

Receiving the Salt Spring National Art Prize Joan McConnell award was a life-changing experience that contributed to my personal growth. It allowed me to continue my residency-hopping travels from New York City, Virginia, Vermont, and Upstate New York without financial burden. In the process, I made great friends, received helpful feedback on my work, and got the chance to travel with some work-in-progress paintings that appeared in my travelling show Praises Unsung. I will always be incredibly grateful for this opportunity; it made 2024 a memorable year and one I’ll cherish forever.
