The Salt Spring National Art Prize 2023/24, a national contemporary art exhibition, runs on Salt Spring Island this fall. The exhibition will see an influx of participating artists from across Canada. To ensure these visitors have accommodation during their stay, the SSNAP Society is seeking a volunteer Billeting Coordinator.

The Billeting Coordinator role is integral to the success of the exhibition. By ensuring that visiting artists have secure and comfortable accommodation, the Billeting Coordinator enables a rich gathering of exemplary Canadian artists. It helps to maintain SSNAP’s reputation as an artist-focused organization, supports networking between resident artists and visitors, and bolsters Salt Spring’s reputation as a vibrant centre of art.

Duties of the Billeting Coordinator include:

  • Identifying and recruiting residents willing to host a visiting artist at their home
  • Developing and maintaining a list of visiting artists who require accommodation
  • Matching visiting artists with appropriate homestay opportunities

This role suits people with:

  • good organizational skills
  • solid computer skills, including spreadsheets and email
  • good communication skills
  • good connections within the Salt Spring Island community

This role is expected to require a commitment of an average of 3 hours per week. The peak work period will be August and September. You will be supported by SSNAP’s Operations Manager, communications team, and Steering Committee.

This volunteer position starts as soon as possible and runs until the finale of SSNAP 2023/24 in late October.
