Since 2017, the Parallel Art Show has showcased and celebrated Southern Gulf Islands artists with an exhibition and a series of awards. The 2023/24 Parallel Art Show (PAS) will be held at ArtSpring on Salt Spring Island this summer and fall.

To support this popular event, the Salt Spring National Art Prize Society is seeking a contract Show Manager.

Show Manager Duties

The Show Manager is responsible for the smooth operations of the PAS gallery and the safety of all gallery attendees and volunteers, ensuring a friendly and welcoming experience for all visitors. The Show Manager will manage art and catalogue sales, track visitors and respond to general inquiries. The Show Manager will also work directly with the Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP) Operations Manager, hanging crew and volunteer coordinator in order to ensure the exhibition runs smoothly.


  • Gain knowledge and familiarity with the planned exhibits and scheduled programming.
  • Be knowledgeable about the exhibition artists and the artwork in the exhibition. Take good care in communicating with the participating artists.
  • Be onsite to manage the gallery and support the show hanging and take down:
    • Exhibition: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (7 days a week); Sunday, September 24 – Sunday, October 22, 2023
    • Set up/hanging: from Wednesday, September 20 – Saturday September 23, 2023
    • Pick up of unsold works and take down Monday October 23, 2023
    • Some flexibility of days may be arranged in advance.
  • Assist with other aspects of exhibit planning and associated events as needed, including:
    • The PAS Opening: Sunday September 24, 2023, likely 6:00 – 8:00 pm
    • The SSNAP/PAS Gala Awards event: 4:00 – 10:00 pm Saturday, October 21, 2023
  • Manage Gallery:
    • Welcome and track visitors
    • Track and orient volunteers to their gallery shifts
    • Manage art and catalogue sales
    • Handle cash outs and daily reports
    • Maintain effective and respectful communication with all ArtSpring staff
    • Ensure safety of visitors and exhibit, including ensuring adherence to Gallery safety protocols.
  • Facilitate visits and artist events:
    • Help organize and facilitate youth visits
    • Facilitate artist talks; coordinating these events with the Operations Manager
    • Facilitate jury tours and other group tours during the exhibition
    • Organize social media posts for the show in cooperation with the Communications Specialist

  • Able to work with artists and volunteers as well as the general public

  • Excellent customer service
  • Availability on weekends
  • Knowledge of visual arts, gallery environment and sales, are strong assets


The Show Manager will be expected to work a total of 4.5 weeks for an honorarium of $6,000. This position is temporary.
