Les visites d’ateliers continuent de favoriser des échanges enrichissants

Dans le cadre de l’initiative de SSNAP visant à mettre en relation des commissaires de l’extérieur de l’île et des artistes locaux par l’entremise de visites d’ateliers, le commissaire Jesse Birch, de la Nanaimo Art Gallery, a récemment visité les ateliers des artistes de Salt Spring Eli Horn, Lexane Rousseau et Barb Tipton. Ces rencontres offrent aux artistes l’occasion de présenter leur travail en profondeur à des commissaires invités, favorisant ainsi des échanges constructifs, une rétroaction professionnelle et de nouvelles perspectives, tout en renforçant les liens entre la communauté artistique de Salt Spring et les institutions de partout dans la province.

Pour Eli Horn, la visite a été à la fois enrichissante et stimulante.
 
“It was a privilege to host Jesse Birch in our studio. His feedback was thoughtful, articulate, and critically engaged in the best sense. Sharing work with a curator so willing to immerse himself in the ideas behind it was both refreshing and energizing. His insights into presenting the work and speaking about it were invaluable. Opportunities like this are rare, and I’m deeply appreciative of the experience.”
 
Lexane Rousseau a elle aussi souligné la valeur de cet échange et de cette occasion de réfléchir à sa pratique.
 
“I really enjoyed the studio visit with Jesse Birch. He asked thoughtful questions and offered observations that challenged me to think differently about both my work and how I talk about it. It was a valuable opportunity to discuss the work, the process, and the ideas behind it, and to have an open conversation about how much context to offer the viewer. I found the visit incredibly worthwhile and would welcome the chance to do it again with new work in the future.”

Pour Jesse Birch, ces visites ont été l’occasion de renouer avec des artistes dont il suivait déjà le travail, tout en découvrant davantage la communauté artistique dynamique de Salt Spring.
 
“Eli Horn and Lexane Rousseau were recipients of the Catalyst Grant, and having served on the jury for that program, it was especially rewarding to see the tangible impact it has had on their practices. It was clear the grant gave them the opportunity to push their work in exciting new directions, with highly successful results. Our conversations were thoughtful and engaging, and I hope the artists found them as valuable as I did.
 
It was also a pleasure to visit ceramic artist Barb Tipton. We had in-depth discussions about her practice and its relationship to ceramic traditions, and I came away with an even greater appreciation for the depth of work being created on Salt Spring Island. I truly value opportunities like these to learn more about the remarkable artists working in the community.”
