Médium

Cosmetics on Paper

The media used in this piece is cosmetics; primarily eyeshadow and blush, on paper. The creative process was multi-dimensional. My desire to “paint” with cosmetics combined with a personal exploration as to why we use cosmetics and the concept of beauty. It also sparked me to delve into the controversial issue of animal testing.

This is an exploration of beauty. Is beauty real? At what cost? To achieve something of beauty we alter, cover, hide, and mask reality. It explores the controversial issue of animal testing. To create something “beautiful” we sacrifice, and even destroy something already beautiful—perhaps the wearer, perhaps the rabbit. This is Vanity Hare.

“I am from Winnipeg, Manitoba and my family made the move to Salt Spring Island one year ago. I am an animal lover, I enjoy reading, art, and all things of beauty. I am a graduate of the University of Manitoba obtaining a Bachelor of Human Ecology, Clothing and Textiles degree, a Bachelor of Laws degree, and also attended their Fine Arts Program. I have enjoyed art my entire life and create in polymer clay, pastels, coloured pencils, and watercolors.”
