With this painting, I have abstractly explored and interpreted the last three years of covid, and how the impact of a separate personal medical issue is affecting my life. In this contemplative work, I am enduring the darkness while reflecting on the possibility of hope and optimism.

Line is integral to my work, offering a path for the viewer into the painting. My process is to continually break with the past, make improvisational shifts, take risks, and go deeper into the work to ponder, search and question the personal and universal.

Margie Korrison, painter, 1944–2023. Margie was born in San Francisco and moved to Salt Spring Island in 1968. At the age of 42, she attended the Victoria College of Art and started exhibiting in 1989. Margie described her paintings as having a sense of “place and belonging.” Colour and line were essential to her work, and she was determined to push her process into new areas. As a mother, designer, fabric artist, and painter she contributed to the rich cultural community of Salt Spring. Margie was a founder and member of many cultural groups and took inspiration from her beautifully curated life: family, friends, flowers, music, painting mentors, and nature.
