Holly de Moissac is an Edmonton-based visual artist whose work focuses on societal un-derstandings of decay and its expression within the body. Influenced by access toephemeral and transient philosophies from a young age, her practice is driven by theconsideration of temporal realities in a permanence-seeking society. Holly attended theUniversity of Alberta, receiving a BFA in Art and Design, focused in painting and print-making. “In my practice I examine the impact of western culture’s resistance to decay upon contemplations of the body and self. North America regards visible decay as a reminderof mortality and responds with the removal of perceived imperfections. By creating en-counters between individuals and physically deconstructed bodies or spaces, my goal isto provide viewers with an opportunity to converse with temporal aspects of the humancondition that do not receive necessary dialogue.”
