My piece titled simply Totem is a collection of bric a brac and flotsam from a vacation we had on Savary Island, BC. I collected all the pieces on the beaches of that sandy island – wood, plywood, eagle feathers, brick, root, stones, and a bone.

I am an artist representing the lost and found, the forgotten and forlorn, the flotsam and jetsam of humans’ reckless wastefulness. Art like this becomes me, beckons. I am the cancelled and the concealed, the unnoticed and the unwanted. Sometimes out of this magic and beauty, revelation and recognition seem to arise for me and for my viewers. With things thrown in the ditch, on the road, and upon ruined beaches is where you’ll findme. Searching. Finding. Wishing. Hoping. Observing and collecting the fallen unnoticed pieces, bringing them back to life. Arranging and looking for texture, colour, shape, some vital expression innate in their nature. These forgotten forlorn flotsam and jetsam are the fabric and makeup of my art. The disparate has become whole again, as Robert Frost said,” a momentary stay against confusion.”
