Serpent GT is the current work in my ongoing study into the influence of popular culture on my art practice. The sea serpent is a common theme in my work, and my life long fascination with hot rods creates a desire to fuse these influences together. Serpent GT began as an exercise to exaggerate the formal design language of the Nuu chah nulth carving tradition. When I was satisfied with its sculptural considerations, I reconsidered tradition and painted it as though it were a Street Rod with sleek, brilliant colours and a racing stripe.
