The artist’s interest with this work revolves around recreating historical garments as a way to connect to her European ancestral traditions. Fascinated by forgotten beauty, labour, techniques of creation, and functional or anti-functional purposes, she both reconstructs extant originals by using historical patterns and materials and replicates garments with updated techniques and modern fabrics. By wearing and documenting these garments, she attempts to understand how these historical pieces can be worn by her modern body on colonized lands. The artist is conscious of the history of her ancestors upon Turtle Island and is set on questioning how this shapes her work.
