“Nature” is part of a series in which the human figure is juxtaposed rather directly with elements of nature (trees, birds, etc.). In this painting I wanted to suggest that we, as humans, are part of nature and not separate from it. It was important for me to use a male figure in the painting since it is the female element that is most often associated with nature, as in the term Mother Nature, for example. If we, as humans, are to change our relationship with nature, we will need to redefine how man is viewed in relationship to nature.
