As physical presence disappears at the moment of death, mementos often become ramparts against forgetfulness. My Mother’s Mouth was motivated by a desire to embrace materiality and to physically remember, as well as an intention to recreate sculptural immanence and vivid emotional resonance, in dwelling for the mind anchored in the material.

Eve Provost Chartrand was born in Montreal, Quebec. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design at UQAM and an MFA at the University of Calgary. Her artworks have been presented in exhibitions in Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan. Her artworks explore how artistic transformative encounters, where underlying, unifying motifs evoking horror and frailty also speak of common humaneness, regeneration, solidarities, and shared vulnerabilities. They instigate embodied things where materiality has agency and divergent bodies are revealed and celebrated for their uniqueness and generative attributes. Her practice puts forward a compassionate and vibrant humanism prone to generating re-interpretations and re-considerations of difference.
