“Ground Glass Opacity” is a cumulative condition affecting the lungs. For me as an island dweller and for most rural residents, accessing advanced medical diagnostic services requires extensive travel. Navigating unfamiliar urban centres, long wait times, and missed ferries instill a feeling of living outside your life. The emotional disruptions portrayed in this painting integrate within my latest series, which explores how experience fragments into memory. The solid, but shattering, map-like overpainting conflicts with the gently expressed foundation. Painted in acrylic, the contrasting techniques infuse the work with a feeling of unease caused by unwelcome upheaval.
