I like to think she would have braved that moment in the same spirit she lived—curious and going forward despite a sad and heavy heart. After the fire, she had to re-invent, re-construct, and re-configure her family’s world. But she was well-equipped for any kind of change, as moving had always been her way of life. From her, I learned about being resourceful and positive in the face of adversity. A graduate of the Alberta College of Art (now ACAD University), she is a recipient of Ontario Arts Council project and exhibition grants and Salt Spring Arts Council grants. She was an artist in residence at the Wallace Stegner House in 2018. Her work has been reviewed in the Globe and Mail (John Bentley-Mays), the Westender (Liz Gilbert), and multiple other publications and has been included in several group exhibition catalogues. Her work is owned and collected internationally. Leslie’s work is project-oriented, in series, with an eye to the conceptual, where her use of materials has meaning.
