Dimension

5" x 5" x 4"

Médium

glass

I use powdered glass to build the sculpture layer by layer, like a 3D printer. I then fire the sculpture in the kiln on the beach, a precious gift from the land that becomes a part of our story, our memory.

Cheryl transforms glass. In 2014 she won the RBC Award for Glass gaining national recogni-tion. Cheryl builds her work in the same way a machine 3D prints, layer by layer. She relin-quishes them to the kiln where they are transformed from a pile of powder to a solid mass. She lives in the far north surrounded by the manifestations of nature relatively untouched byman and constantly made aware of the relative insignificance of humanity. The rocks, treesand lakes are a daily reminder making her keenly aware that she is only passing by briefly.Cheryl strives to reflect these impressions in her work. Her desire is to capture the insignifi-cance of humanity in the face of nature. At the same time, she examines the central irony, thecontradiction in the legacy that we leave as humans.www.cherylwilsonsmith.com
