Alders and Winter Helen Bly KayeSalt Spring Island, BC Dimension 18" x 24" Médium Hand coloured tissue paper collage on panel I have been exploring the medium of paper collage, a study which has led to a detailed exploration of the winter landscape; the exposure of bare branches, and the few remaining leaves in the winter light. My materials are hand coloured archival tissue papers and glue. I like to discover the effects of layering different colours of papers; the subtle changes from wet to dry, and the differences between tearing and cutting. Alders and Winter is the second of an ongoing series. I aim for a feeling of serenity, representing the landscape I know so well. A graduate of the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art + Design), she has been a practising artist for over 35 years. Her work focuses on a detailed depiction of her winter environment through the medium of tissue paper collage. She has given workshops in Mexico and on Salt Spring.
