Driftwood and concrete base

Gems, for sure, are delivered by nature. In this case, it was a very unimpressive-looking piece of driftwood from our beach. The eye of the artist detected the hidden potential. After different approaches to get into contact with the raw material, a beautifully sculptured piece emerged, preserving the square natural shape.

While the yellow color and the fine black structures resemble the ‘vanilla,’ the smoothly rounded red structure of the base gives the ‘kiss’ to it.

Doreen Palme was born in 1968 in former East Germany. After the Wall came down and having completed her economics studies, she moved to West Germany, where she worked for 20 years as a credit risk analyst.
Her first visit to Canada in 2009 changed her life because she fell in love with this country.

Since the beginning of 2017, Salt Spring Island has been home to her and her husband. With the change to their lives, she found her way from economics and numbers to carving and creating with driftwood, thus developing a deep passion for nature and art.
