Seaweed and tooth

Suzukis are an ongoing series. They are an homage to Dr. David Suzuki, who I feel is one of the humans trying to help save us from ourselves. This particular Suzuki is made of seaweed from a local beach and a tooth from a prehistoric, extinct species of walrus.

Port Alberni, BC

Dave creates art in Port Alberni. About his work, he says, “I find beauty in everyday things and the patina created by age and wear. This could be in a person, a discarded chunk of metal or something washed up on the shore. Not all things are beautiful, but there is beauty in all things. I’m not sure who said that, but I try to approach my days that way and express that with my art.”

Dave’s current work includes the Suzuki series which are numbered rather than named. The hope is that the owner will join in the creative process and complete the piece by naming it in a way that means something to them or invokes something in them. Dave has shown in both the Sooke and BC Festivals of the Arts, Tofino’s Carving on the Edge Festival and Port Alberni’s ArtRave. His work is currently showing at the Ahtsik Native Art Gallery in Port Alberni.
