Oil paint on reclaimed iPhone screen

In my artistic practice, I explore the interplay between technology, human connection, and the transient nature of our modern society. My current series focuses on oil paint portraits created on discarded and damaged iPhone screens, with an emphasis on capturing the intricacies and depth of people’s eyes. With a focus on the eyes, I invite viewers to engage in a deep and intimate connection with the subjects. The discarded and damaged iPhone screens symbolize the transitory nature of technology, while the timeless medium of oil paint represents the enduring essence of human expression.

Zoey’s current body of work explores the entanglement between technology and human relationships. The discarded and damaged iPhone screens symbolize the transitory nature of technology, while the timeless medium of oil paint represents the enduring essence of human expression. After an accomplished career in computer animation and digital painting, Zoey moved towards a more traditional practice, oil painting. Zoey studied under contemporary masters such as Keita Morimoto, Max Ginsburg, Costa Dvorezky, and Scott Conary.

She now shares her extensive artistic knowledge with her students at Centennial College while maintaining an active practice out of her studio, Studio 102, in North York, Ontario.
