“Requiem For The Undone” is a mixed media glass bead work that is part of my “She’s Come Undone” series. In this series, art relates to the challenges faced by women as mothers and creators. This work was inspired by a friend’s placenta abruptus and dead baby at 8 months in utero. Over the time of creation, statistics have come out about choices some mothers have made about terminating female fetuses. This choice has also emerged in Margaret Atwood’s “Handmaid’s Tale”. Birth and creation can be messy work, sometimes undone and compromised by numerous choices.

Mixed media artist Teresa Burrows lives and creates in northern Manitoba at a log cabin studio on the shores of Paint Lake. She has fused her history of painting, printmaking and photography with sculptural and glass beadwork mediums and techniques.
She hopes to draw people into the intimacy of the medium, using tiny pieces of glass sewn together like pixels which showcase a mastery of colour and design, moving beyond a history of decoration into a contemporary vision.
An unapologetic feral artist, her images are allowed to live in surreal chaos-whatever reality exists behind the disparate, giving the viewer a glimpse in a window, allowing the view but not necessarily defining it. She invites the audience to question their perceptions and their own experiences. Her work is influenced by fairytales and mythology layered with political and societal issues, events from history and her personal life.
Burrows has been generously funded by the Manitoba Arts Council and Canada Council for the Arts.
