Alexis Kondra's artistic practice is strongly influenced by attempting to visually construct one of her childhood homes, a task much more difficult than imagined. Specific spaces, wallpapers and colours came to her instantly but when it came to the house as a whole she was at a loss. Unable to remember even the colour of the exterior of the house she became curious about memories associated with the home as well as how objects that come from within the home allow those memories to be revisited.

Kondra now creates handmade miniatures around these ideas of time passing, memories and anamnesis. Her miniatures are made at a scale of 1:24, a size meant for viewing and displaying pleasures only. They are not mean to be touched and played with. Although Kondra's miniatures resemble perfect cabinet houses, she subverts the idea of the perfect dollhouse by showcasing old, dusty, lived-in homes.
