Neighbourhood guitars Iryna MerkulovaMontreal, QC Size 36" x 24" Medium oil painting on canvas With my paintings, I examine the influence of social behaviour on the transformation of the urban landscape by capturing the moments of frozen perception. In particular, the reflection on a glass surface creates temporary and absurd visuals juxtaposing the inner and outer spaces. This reflection also suspends bodies and objects ironically, questioning their purpose and essence of existence. Her art practices primarily revolve around painting and drawing, occasionally complemented by mix-media artworks and videos. Through her artworks, she investigates profound themes like women’s roles in society, communal urban living, consumerism, and sustainability.
