“Minutes” is a handwoven piece inspired by the technique of automatic drawing. Using paper and ink, a timer was set and, after two minutes, the mark-making that resulted became the inspiration for the dyed warp threads of the woven cloth. Textural details were added intuitively and in response to the translated marks on the loom. Each unplanned detail further explores the randomness of my initial mark-making and the continued abstraction of my thoughts. It is the act of weaving that allows my work to be an evolving construction, capable of sharing my narrative as a single visual experience.
