Seeing from inside, curiosity, questioning the enigma of place, are all emotions which fascinate me. With no preconception, I imagine a story, or simply understand and decipher the situation which presents itself to me. This seeing-through is always a little incomprehensible. “L’Ile-aux-Coudres” was taken in this context, I wished this photo, taken from the interior of my car, while crossing L’Ile aux Coudres, to “grasp one space in order to gain another.” This is part of a series of photographs which I am assembling for a future show about spaces, seen from inside. The dramatic effect is achieved by solarization.

Born in 1949 in Montreal, I started in photography at the age of 15, initiated by my brother Georges, artist. In 1970, I graduated from the School of Professional Photography in Trois-Rivières, then several trips marked my practice. It was in British Columbia, where I lived for 10 years, that my career as an artist photographer took off. The human contact, the intimacy that develops with my subjects, guides my research and feeds my reflection.
