Size

17" x 24"

Medium

Hand-cut collage and ink on yupo paper

Through ink and analogue collage and utilizing figures from Eadweard Muybridge’s Animal Locomotion series from 1887, “Land Sky Sea” explores the symbiotic relationship of humans in the natural world. Gaining a deeper understanding of seasonal foraging, cycles of the moon, and the ebbs and flows of tides bring us closer to a more harmonious and joyful relationship with our surroundings.

Rosie Schinners (b.1979) is a collage artist residing on Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada. She holds a Bachelor of Art from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Fine Art from NSCAD University.

Although focusing on painting during her formal art education, returning to collage art as a primary medium was a natural transition. From a young age, she has been cutting, pasting, and leaving trails of scrap paper around the house. Most recently, she was selected by and collaborated with Kolaj Magazine as the 2019 World Collage Day Featured Artist. Working primarily with vintage print material, Schinners combines hand-cut collage with vibrant splashes of colour to bring new life to old images. She looks to explore and express fleeting moments of magic, alchemy, and nostalgia. Recent work has celebrated and reflected the traditions of folk magic and ‘brujeria’ and our relationship to the natural world, all through the lens of the feminine experience.
