Intaglio screen print, digital hand-bound book

I am inspired by how familiarity + otherness, permanence + transience, intimacy + expansiveness are conveyed through perceptions of home. House Sampler, Land Sampler depicts more than one hundred Bowen Island homes and the land they were subtracted from. The piece encourages research and reflection when cross-referencing information between the photo-intaglio print and the mixed media hand-bound bookwork.

Bowen Island, BC

Vanessa Hall-Patch’s inspiration and method of creating are fueled by a passion to collect. Through photography and print she forms her own system of research; together they act as a visual diary cataloguing and archiving the island environment she inhabits. Unique, personal and often hidden in the backwoods and seascapes; Vanessa brings the cabins, cottages and houses of the past and present into focus. Since graduating with a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Alberta, Vanessa has exhibited nationally and internationally and is the recipient of grants, prizes and residencies. Group exhibitions include The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery in Newfoundland, Pacific Design Center in L.A., Awagami International in Japan and Bradley International where she was awarded 2nd Place. Vanessa works at Emily Carr University of Art + Design and commutes to Bowen Island where she lives with her family.
