“An Hour of Silence for Leonora” is inspired by Leonora Carrington, whose feminist surrealism revealed the power of transformation, magic, and the subconscious. Carrington would visit gardens in the first light of dawn, calling it “the hour of silence.” This piece imagines a scene she may have come across in her garden wanderings. A creature, merging aspects of womanhood and arachnids, perches on a leaf. Adorned in a grand hat brimming with mystical knowledge, she possesses human hands at the ends of spider legs. Cradled within these hands is a fragmented eggshell enclosing a small crow who whispers revolutionary change.
