Inspired by a summer evening spent in a hilltop cabin along the coast of Inverness, Heaven’s Gate captures a moment of poetic transition. Subtleties of colour and light are expressed with direct mark making and thickly layered painted surface. The descending sun reflects off the inner door frame and creates a view of the landscape partially blocked by a nearby cottage.

“My painting practice draws from everyday life, the intensity of ordinary moments and how they change over time. Subjects of interest vary from portraying family members to familiar landscapes and domestic interiors. Paintings are created with a specific focus on subtle shifts in colour, variation in medium with thin and thickly textured surface and gestural marks.”
