As a Filipina-Canadian, born in Saudi Arabia, I think about narratives of migration that complicate the Filipino identity and inform the Filipino Diaspora. I work between painting and computer-aided design programs, using my family’s homes as the basis for my digital drawings. These drawings are then translated into paintings. They’re not recreations but, rather, alternative third spaces. These paintings aren’t fixed. They’re sometimes paired, grouped, re-positioned, or altered to become hybrids. With purpose-built, wooden supports, the paintings are taken off the wall and transformed again. These supports hold space and provide alternative ways of looking.
