This painting grew out of a series of blind contour landscape drawings that I did in 2018 during an excursion to Parc National du Bic in eastern Quebec. Although initially intended to be an abstract landscape, it evolved into an investigation of boundaries and separation, a theme that frequently appears in my work. In this painting, I’ve also played around with different textures in the background and foreground to emphasis the sense of space. My goal is to challenge the viewer to investigate beyond the surface, to question the reality and the relationships that are being presented.

Kelly Rendek is a Montreal-based artist, originally from Regina, Saskatchewan. She obtained a BA in Mathematics from McGill University in 1985 and an MA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1989. After a professional career as an actuary and several years of consulting for international development organisations, she switched directions and completed a Certificate in Visual Arts at Fleming College, Ontario in 2015. She graduated from Concordia University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing.
