I am a painter exploring this pandemic time through portraiture. This is a painting of my 91-year-old father, who has been isolated at home, barred from visiting his wife of 68 years in a care home (except outdoors or on Zoom) in the first year, and unable to fully grieve her loss in the second year. Yet, he continues to face this time with courage and acceptance. The mask situates this work firmly in this time that is paradoxically contemporary yet historic.
