This image was taken at Cypress Park in the spring of 2015. The panorama is made up of left and right images taken using a 50mm lens at f1.4. Additional light was added by hand to the foreground during exposure. Photographs from this series consider the simultaneous impressions of “familiar” and “foreign” brought on by exploring the natural world at night.

Mike Bernard is a visual artist who works with motion and still images. He receivedhis BAA in Photographic Studies from Ryerson in 1994 and has written and di-rected short films and documentaries that have played around the world. He cur-rently resides in Vancouver where he continues to work on film and photographyprojects. Mike Bernard’s photographs explore the relationship between humans and thenatural world. His work for the last thirty years has considered nature in its mostpristine state as well as the intersections where human involvement in the land-scape becomes apparent. In his most recent series “New Landscape” there is alsoan investigation into the mechanics of seeing and how we use our senses to orientourselves in the world.
