“Crossing” combines photographic aspects of plants and organic elements while referencing scientific attributes of botanical illustrations and maps. Withered bleeding hearts form an anthropomorphic procession; vessel-like structures await their arrival for transport. The curved bone becomes a border between their diminishing world and a brighter more promising one.

Janet Dwyer, a graduate of Ryerson’s Photography Program (Toronto), began her photographic career in 1973. She works within the industry in many capacities, primarily as freelance photographer, educator and artist.

Dwyer's personal photography is an exploration of image-making with a flatbed scanner. This series uses natural elements—mostly flowers—to create relationships and surreal combinations of forms and textures engaged in a dialogue.

The underlying intent of Janet's scanography work is to provoke an emotional response, and to elicit questions about our familiar notions of beauty, sensuality, relationship and form.
