“Bluebeard’s Children” is a series of three prints on linen. Drawing on historical and contemporary versions of the Bluebeard folk tale, the prints explore intertextuality and the shifts in narrative perspective that occur over time. Centering on power structures within sexual relationships, Bluebeard’s Children weaves together themes of sexual ambiguity, sovereignty and subordination.

“Born and raised in southern Ontario, my love for the ocean and art brought me to the West Coast. In 2010, I completed my MFA at the University of British Columbia and I have been living and working as an artist in Vancouver, B.C. ever since. Cross-disciplinary in scope, my artwork explores human relationships and how we understand ourselves within the framework of institutions—particularly those that structure childhood experiences. A combination of social history, popular fiction, children’s literature and psychoanalytic theory inform my work as I navigate concerns around memory, longing and attachment.”
