This painting speaks of how the greater part of our conscious life is generated and affected by our subconscious. Our conscious life could be considered the “tip of the iceberg”. Our fears, and longings, as well as primal impulses, and a vast sea of memory, ancestral and collective influences make up the world that lies below our surfaces.

About the artist

Cheryl Long

Cheryl grew up in Québec and for many years lived in a small village in the Eastern Townships. Pencil and paper were constant companions. Graduating from Concordia University with a BFA, she went on to a varied and creative career as an illustrator, author, designer, and visual artist.

Now living on Salt Spring Island, BC, she paints in oil, illustrates, and writes children’s picture books. She is drawn to the mystery of the sky, the rhythm of water, the whisper of stone, and the breath that weaves them all together.
