The goal and result of this painting is to represent an ideal of perfection. I incorporate pure geometry, flat surfaces, solid colours, and finishes that emulate fine furniture; combined with contemporary computerized fabrication methods to create texture. I abandon traditional fine art painting tools and methods in favour of those typically associated with industrial manufacturing: spray guns and milling machines.

Karen Louise Jones is a Victoria based artist who is currently enrolled part-time in the Diploma of Fine Arts program at the Vancouver Island School of Art. Prior to this, she studied part-time at the Victoria College of Art for three years. Karen has a 25-year long career in finance, and approaches her painting practice with the same focused discipline that has shaped her business success. Karen’s paintings demonstrate her attention to detail and contain a high level of precision. My paintings blur the distinction between ideas of traditional painting and manufactured objects. Through the influences of minimalism, geometric abstraction and contemporary technology, I create an idea of perfection using form and surface. The works are paradoxical; as a result of an intense involvement in the process, I remove evidence of my hand, leaving the focus on the purity of the form.
