Karen Reiss moved to Salt Spring Island in 1979 with her husband, poet Murray Reiss. She has been a ceramic sculptor for 25 years. Her influences working with clay include workshops with Kathy Venter (figurative ceramics), Denys James (low-fire clay), and Rosette Gault (paper-clay).

Reiss was a founding member of the Alliance of Salt Spring Artists. Her work has appeared in solo and group shows in Ontario, British Columbia, and Washington State and is held in private collections in Canada, the United States, Germany, and Israel. She is represented on Salt Spring Island, BC, by Gallery 8, Grace Point Square.
