Carrington would visit gardens in the first light of dawn, calling it “the hour of silence.” This piece imagines a scene she may have come across in her garden wanderings. A creature, merging aspects of womanhood and arachnids, perches on a leaf. Adorned in a grand hat brimming with mystical knowledge, she possesses human hands at the ends of spider legs. Cradled within these hands is a fragmented eggshell enclosing a small crow who whispers revolutionary change. These mediums are connected through a pursuit of storytelling that embodies broader concepts surrounding identity, the contemporary psyche, and ecological impacts. Salzl has a Master of Fine Arts from Concordia University and has presented her work across Canada and internationally.
