The Seal Boy-Reflections on Innocence. I encountered a Seal-Boy, while swimming in the cold waters of the bay and remembered innocence and joy. Who are you against the shadows that rage and burn? I asked. You’re a child who has not learned to be afraid and hide your innocence and joy as if they were crimes. Take heart he said. I will not lose myself in the shadows. I will look into their eyes as softly as a gentle rain until they remember. It may take a day, or one million, but eventually they will be stung by joy.

Cheryl LongSalt Spring Island, BC
Living on Salt Spring Island, BC, I am primarily a painter of Landscapes, as well as writing and illustrating children’s books. I draw inspiration from my travels across Canada, visiting and photographing our National Parks and wilderness areas for future paintings. A history as a massage therapist and illustrator are a large influence in my work, where suggestions of anatomy and flowing, sculptural shapes figure prominently, infusing the work with a mystical quality
