We are living through an era of unprecedented stress. Daily, the heat is turned up. I realize I have effectively surrounded myself with a thin survival membrane, keeping the inner obscured while holding the outer world at bay. But the pressure is too great. The perfect sphere of my coping mechanisms begins to rupture. I don’t know the creatures bursting from my psyche. Are they buried doubts and fears, or are they opportunities? Chintan BolligerSalt Spring Island, BC
Chintan was born in Zurich and grew up in Switzerland, Spain and the South of France. She received her formal art education at Zurich’s University of the Arts and the F+F Conceptual Art School in the 70s. She has lived and worked on Salt Spring Island for the past 35 years, with painting as her main practice. Incorporating representational elements within abstraction allows her to explore the boundary between her inner world and its external manifestation. Chintan’s work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in British Columbia, Switzerland, and Hawaii.
