Melanie Thompson, a multi-disciplinary visual artist. A professional basket maker, Melanie completed the Diploma in Fine Arts program at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2010. This course work led to her practice a conceptual focus on material transformation and the environment. She frequently creates work for installations. Her practice includes both 2- and 3-dimensional work. Some of the disciplines she employs are basketry, stitching, collage, sculpture, print making, eco printing, ink making, and encaustic and acrylic painting. Melanie’s intuitive creative process reveals a unique approach in which to view found materials. Melanie has exhibited and sold her work widely. Her work can currently be found at Summer Artcraft and Nook on Salt Spring Island, BC.
