Intaglio etching with chine collé and embroidery

Escaping the pogroms of Czarist Oppression, my family, as refugees, sought a sense of belonging on the Canadian Prairies, where they could express their religious devotion in relative security, free from overt discrimination. A communally built synagogue, the central image of this art piece, is super-imposed over a deep embossed symbol of the globe. My printmaking methodology has evolved over the decades, including experimentation with embroidery and Chine Collé appliqué (Japanese Washi paper.) Interspersed are various iconic images, combined on this multi-plate intaglio etching, which refer to religious items, fundamentally important to Jewish tradition.
