At Loose Ends reflects my response to the shocking news that began pouring across the border earlier this year. I began with a few swift gestural lines over a layered background. Once those were in place, I realized I’d been feeling at loose ends, wondering what to do in the face of so much calamity. I let that theme guide me as I developed the composition. Shapes at the edges of the canvas suggest that what we assume is stable often rests on fragile foundations; the lamps, dimly lit, suggest the potential for illumination, for finding a way forward.
