The program is open to all professionals working in the arts, in any genre or medium, at any stage of their careers. The intent of the program continues to be the provision of time and space for creativity and productivity and to introduce visiting artists to Salt Spring Island and its arts community. Starting this year, we welcome International applicants to the program.Residencies are awarded based on available facilities, potential links to the Salt Spring community, collaborative opportunities and artistic merit. In the last three years AiR has welcomed Canadian artists living as far away as Thailand and from as close by as Victoria. Our juried artists this year are printmaker and fibre artist Audrey Feltham from Newfoundland, ceramicist Jessica Sallay-Carrington from Quebec, and mixed-media artist Noelle Hamlyn from Ontario. In addition, we welcome pop up residents Dianne Whelan, documentary film maker, on a break from her cross Canada journey on the Great Trail, and for the first time reach beyond our own borders to welcome French sound artist Emmanuel Mailly. As in previous years, as well as working on their own projects, the artists will share their expertise and enthusiasm through presentations, workshops, demonstrations and exhibits, enriching our island with their work and ideas, interacting with Salt Spring artists and enjoying our unique island life style.
