Born and educated in Italy, Mena Martini has lived in France and Mexico. Today she works in Vancouver as an artist and a writer.
Mena has exhibited in Canada and Europe, and was part of the "Italy in the World" multimedia installation at the 2011 Venice Biennale.
To quote Angela Clark, curator of "Il Museo" at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver: "Mena uses her palette as a veil, reminding us that some mysteries are not meant to be understood. Her colours and their vaporous quality impart a fascination with the liminal. Her work as an artist focuses at maintaining the viewer in the space of the threshold, suspending time and freezing the moment at which transformation is about to take place. Mena’s paintings give us the opportunity to rest and reflect before these stages occur, for once something has emerged from the threshold it is not the same as before."
