Leather

Two leather vessels hang on a single continuous strap, as if on the shoulder of an invisible bearer.
Made of layered vegetable-tanned leather scraps and formed using techniques inspired by ceramics and woodworking, their surfaces shift between flexibility and solidity, matte and gloss.
They are inextricably yet impermanently bound, suspended in a tenuous balance.
Evoking an artifact from a forgotten place, these pendulous urn-like figures are both familiar and surreal. Each element is recognizable, yet together their purpose becomes dissonant, suggesting remnants of an altered world.

Lexane is an artist and designer originally from Paris, now based on Salt Spring Island. Co-founder of the awardwinning Memory Studio and trained in both art and design, her current sculptural practice uses scraps of vegetabletanned leather to create vessels shaped through processes inspired by ceramics, shoemaking, and woodworking. The work challenges assumptions about material and function. Past projects include Annoukis, a leatherwork collection exhibited internationally.
