Creating an image of a braver self I manipulate charcoal, a medium of burnt wood, onto paper crafted from pulp. Shifting, erasing, and revising, the act of drawing is a physical document of human touch. Wearing red plaid, a tartan legacy steeped in the history of a revolutionary past, she embodies an outsider’s desire to take a stand, once and for all. Born and raised in Ireland she emigrated to Canada after completing her BFA at the Belfast School of Art, Ulster University. Sibéal graduated with an MFA at the University of Calgary in 1986 and shortly after, commenced a 28-year-long teaching career at the Faculty of Fine Art, Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
