The model’s pose is based on a Balthus’ painting ‘The Window’. Though caught by the camera, Bronwen’s eyes move to look at pregnant Metta and her larger self-taking up the foreground. I wanted to know more about Alex’ fascination with the pose, and somehow, my understanding of pregnancy and how it changes the world is part of that. Trees dance on the walls, the carpet swirls onto the blending bodies of Metta and her larger version, and the bevy of movement pushes at the finite edges of shapes and the historical, psychic and social connections they signify. Amongst the jostle are other meanings and tolerable freedom.
