Hand embroidery on linen
The living landscape constantly transforms. Alluvial fans formed by silt carried by creeks are veined with capillaries that feed into arterial rivers. The spillage and circulation of water and earth erode and deposit in turn. Through slow, handsewn embroidery, I aim to capture this process. My work evokes the tactile nature of the landscape and personal encounters with place. Signs of climate change – from overt to subtle –show in leaves turning colour earlier in the season and patches of dead trees from spruce beetle kill. These relentless changes make me feel anxious.
