A brick thrown at Stonewall in 1969 marked a turning point in queer resistance. As a queer person of Slavic descent, I honour ancestors lost to violence, AIDS, and erasure. Weaving the Trykutnyk—an ancient symbol of spirit—over a single brick, I collapse time to express gratitude for those who fought before me. Their courage echoes through milestones in Canadian history, from decriminalization to marriage equality and the banning of conversion therapy. This work is a message: your fight mattered, and it continues.

Dillon Lew’chuk (he/him) is a queer, (dis)abled, Canadian-Ukrainian artist living on the unceded lands of the Lək̓ʷəŋən peoples (Victoria, BC). His multidisciplinary practice explores belonging, resilience, and queer joy through sculpture, textiles, installation and painting. Drawing on his family’s carnival legacy (Lewchuk Midway & Shows, 1918–1960s), Pre-Christian Slavic symbolism, and Queer/(Dis)ability justice, Dillon creates bold, folkloric works rooted in cultural reclamation and resistance. He is one half of the collaborative duo &&, whose work merges drawing, printmaking, and experimental media. Dillon is also a Registered Art Therapist and Counsellor, integrating care and activism into his creative work.
